Impacted third Molars

Third molars (or wisdom teeth) become impacted when there is a mismatch between the size of the tooth and the size of the jaw. They are unable to fully erupt into the mouth because they are blocked by other teeth.

If the wisdom teeth have an open connection to the mouth, bacteria will accumulate around the crown of the partially erupted tooth. Inflammation or infection is likely to follow causing pain or damage to the adjacent teeth.
